TYPE
101 AGENT
The
Type 101 Network Control Agent was designed for Drake Automation Ltd. (now part of Harris
Corp.), as
part of a range of modular control and supervisory
equipment for remote alarm monitoring and control
applications. It is particularly suited to remote network
and utility monitoring applications. Its modular concept
enables it to be a cost-effective solution across a wide
range of applications of differing complexity. The
modules are of the standard single-extended Eurocard
format (220mm x 100mm) with 96 way DIN41612 two-part edge
connectors. The card frame is fully EMC shielded, and may
be 1U, 2U or 3U in height, dependent upon facilities. The
Agent is designed to be capable of dual redundancy of all
functions, including the removable switch-mode power
supply module.
MODULES
THE
MANAGER
The
Manager module is a dedicated controller card, and can
form the hub of the system. It has three user RS-232
serial ports, one of which has a front-mounted connector,
and is normally used for diagnostic purposes. It also has
eight logic level GP Inputs (with pull-ups), and eight GP
isolated relay contact closure outputs. These are all
available to the user. It also has a battery-backed real-time-clock.
It has an RS-485 high-speed multi-drop port for
communication with other modules in the family. It has
the capability for the upload of new operating software
via one of the serial ports. The module has two front
mounted LEDs, one of which flashes to indicate module
health (green), and the other illuminates when the module
is active (red).
THE
COMMUNICATOR
The
Communicator module has its own powerful micro-controller,
which can act as a system hub in place of the Manager
card. The Communicator has fully embedded TCP/IP protocol,
and interfaces with a standard PCMCIA card. This can be
used for modem dial-up, or can provide Ethernet or LAN/WAN
access. This enables network communication to other 100
Series systems, or to PCs. The Communicator fully
supports SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol),
making it compatible with standard Network Management
software, such as HP OpenviewÔ
. It can also be used as an HTML web server, allowing
remote equipment status to be displayed and controlled by
means of a standard Internet web browser. The
Communicator also has a battery-backed real-time-clock,
and an RS-485 high-speed multi-drop port for
communication with other modules in the family .
THE
ASSISTANT
The Assistant module has
mixed I/O capability, with sixteen GP logic level inputs
(with pull-ups) and sixteen GP Output relay contact
closures. It also has two user serial ports, one of which
is dedicated to RS-232, the other may be optionally used
with RS-232 or RS-422/485. It also has an RS-485 high-speed
multi-drop port for communication with other modules in
the family. It has its own on-board micro-controller,
which means that as well as providing extra facilities to
the Manager card, plus a degree of parallel processing,
it is possible for the Assistant to stand alone in simple
applications. The Assistant also has an interface
connector to enable a diagnostic and operational display
module to be used. It carries a 16 x 2 character back-lit
LCD alphanumeric display, and can be used for status
indication, fault tracing, and associated functions.
SYSTEM
CONFIGURATION
The modules
communicate via the high-speed multi-drop RS-485 bus,
normally all internal to the rack unit frame wiring.
However, this does not have to be the case. Modules in
the family do not have to be co-located; instead a
distributed system could be constructed with individual
cards located close to the equipment to which they
interface. The high-speed RS-485 bus would then link all
of the modules to enable the system to function. The
Communicator card could also be used to link module sets
via a LAN or WAN.
CONTROL
GUI
Amcro can also
provide custom WindowsÔ
- based GUI (Graphical User Interface) software for this
type of product, communicating via dial-up, serial (Com
Port) or Ethernet .
