TYPE 209 ASPECT RATIO CONTROLLER(SORRY, THIS PRODUCT IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE)
The 209 interprets the correct aspect ratio of the signal being sent from your digital set-top box and instructs the plasma display or scaler to switch automatically via its RS232 port. Note: Not suitable for plasma TVs with external tuner boxes, or integrated plasma TVs. See list of supported models. THE PROBLEMWidescreen CRT televisions have long been able to adapt automatically to the images produced by digital set-top boxes, allowing 16:9 images to occupy the whole screen and 4:3 images to be displayed in their correct aspect ratio with black bars either side. Unfortunately, in most cases, due to the way TV signals are passed to plasma display panels and some other video processing products, this automatic feature is not available, requiring the user to adjust the aspect ratio manually. This situation is fine when watching a DVD, but not so good when channel hopping or when the aspect ratio of the source is frequently changing. THE SOLUTIONThe Type 209 Aspect Ratio Controller interprets the intended aspect ratio of the signal being sent from the digital set-top box and instructs the plasma display or processor to change automatically via its RS232 port. The unit accepts signals from all digital set-top boxes which support widescreen signalling via SCART pin 8, such as Sky Digital, Freeview, NTL Digital, Telewest Digital, etc.. PLASMA DISPLAYSThe controller is designed to work with plasma display panels which are standalone, i.e. they do not operate in conjunction with a ‘media box or ’tuner box’.
